Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority Announcement

David Gutheil joins Port Authority as VP for Maritime & Logistics

CLEVELAND – October 11, 2010 – The Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority today announced the appointment of David S. Gutheil to Vice President, Maritime & Logistics. Gutheil has international and domestic experience in logistics, marketing and the transportation/shipping industries. Among his duties, Gutheil will be responsible for managing the Port of Cleveland’s maritime facilities and the implementation of marketing and trade development programs to attract new customers, carriers and cargo shippers.

Gutheil, who starts his new job today, has worked for an assortment of transportation-related companies for nearly 20 years, most recently as Director of Strategic Accounts for NYK Logistics (Americas) Inc., one of the world’s leading logistics providers. NYK offers international and domestic services that include warehousing & distribution, freight movement and supply chain consulting. NYK Logistics is part of the NYK Group, one of the world’s largest ocean vessel operators

Gutheil’s responsibilities at NYK included directing marketing and business development efforts involving Fortune 100 and 500 companies. He has worked extensively on import/export issues, and has a deep understanding of the challenges and complexities involved with the transfer of waterborne cargo to rail or truck carriers.

“We’re very excited to get someone of David’s caliber,” said Will Friedman, CEO of the port authority. “He has well-rounded industry experience that will allow him to take our business development and marketing programs to the next level. We will look to him to increase the exposure – both nationally and globally – of the Port, our customers and northeast Ohio.

Gutheil, 42, has a thorough understanding – from multiple perspectives – of the complex industry of moving cargo. He also previously worked as vice president for sales & marketing for Interstate Distributor Co., one of the 20 largest full truckload carriers in the U.S. While there, he increased revenues within his territory by more than 300 percent.

“I’m looking forward to helping Will and the rest of the staff at the port authority better utilize this great northeast Ohio asset,” Gutheil said. “My goal will be to better incorporate the movement of goods into the maritime side of our operation so that northeast Ohio and local companies get maximum benefit from the port.”

Gutheil has a bachelor’s degree in economics. He lives in Avon with his wife and two children. He serves on the school board at St. Paul Lutheran School in Westlake
