DB Schenker Increases PVMI Warehouse Capacity in Mexico

(Essen/Berlin, October 18, 2012) - DB Schenker Logistics has opened a new state of the art logistics centre in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The new 12,600 square meter warehouse, located in the Guadalajara Technology Industrial Park, provides new capacity for production material to support high-tech electronics manufacturing in the area. The warehouse operates with DB Schenker’s PVMI solution (short for Production Vendor Managed Inventory), a standardized supplier owned inventory solution specifically designed for production material in electronics manufacturing supply chains.

The new logistics centre replaces a smaller facility that no longer had sufficient space to meet the increased demand of OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturer) for electronics manufacturing in Guadalajara.

“It is a very special feeling when you see a device such as a popular phone and know that our PVMI solution enabled 100% of the parts needed for that product,” says Henry Cone, Director, PVMI Product and Business Development, Schenker Logistics, Inc.

“With PVMI we are providing a logistics platform to easily connect suppliers to the world’s manufacturing centres where the phones, laptops and other electronic equipment that we use every day are produced. OEM brand owners can greatly simplify their production material supply chains while gaining visibility and control when they choose our PVMI solution.“

PVMI includes both standardized business processes and IT solutions with an underlying IT structure to support them. PVMI addresses all aspects of inbound material management for electronics manufacturing supply chains: inbound transportation, receipt, put away, storage, pull, pack, shipment, dray transportation, material management, inventory control, liability, warehousing, customs, contracts, supplier onboarding, supplier management, customer support, non-standard services, and B2B messaging.

DB Schenker currently operates a growing number of PVMI installations where electronics manufacturing is centered throughout the world. In the Americas, in addition to the new site in Guadalajara, DB Schenker operates PVMI centres in Houston and Austin, Texas and is currently implementing a new warehouse in El Paso, Texas. These premises currently total about 150,000 square meters and support nearly 30 PVMI installations aligned to electronics manufacturing for numerous globally recognized brands at four of the top 5 global Electronics Manufacturing Services providers. They house more than 30,000 OEM Part Numbers that are owned by more than 1,000 suppliers – all of whom rely on DB Schenker’s PVMI solution.
